Know Your Options--Treating Prostate Cancer with HIFU vs. CyberKnife

What is the difference between the CyberKnife procedure and a HIFU?"-Dr. Mistry reminds us that approximately 350,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. Despite being one of the most common cancers in men, it also has a low mortality rate, meaning that treatments are often effective at targeting cancer and prolonging life. This is great news! Dr. Mistry discusses two of these treatments today. 1. Cyberknife- The Cyberknife uses a form of external beam radiation to target cancer in the prostate gland. This procedure is relatively quick; however, it does involve radiation and can have an impact in organs near the prostate gland.2. HIFU- Short for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, this procedure uses focused sound waves to target prostate tissue in a non-cutting manner.
