knowledge@ASB: Dangers of Online Dating

from Knowledge@Australian School of Business · host UNSWTV

Internet dating began as a clandestine activity for many, but these days it's mainstream and a widely used social service. Like all popular cyber meeting places, however, online dating sites attract their share of scammers. "Romance fraud" is on the increase as perpetrators create fake identities and work their way into the hearts of eager singles. Then they profess love before asking for money. Even smart individuals – when virtually infatuated – may fall prey to these fraudsters' ruses. But a new study from the Australian School of Business reveals how to spot a scammer.
