Kodiak Cakes: Cameron Smith

from Starting Small · host Cameron Nagle

Thank you for tuning into "Starting Small", a podcast about brand development, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the modern world. This episode is with Cameron Smith, President and Co-Founder of Kodiak Cakes. As a child, Cameron's Co-Founder, Joel Clark, used to wheel around a wheel barrel full of his mothers pancake recipe. She made a pancake mix that was whole grain, packed it in lunch bags with simple instructions, and sent Joel off to sell door to door. Word began to spread, and this once a neighborhood fad turned into a nation wide brand. Cameron initially joined to handle the marketing end of Kodiak Cakes out of college, which played a tremendous role for the success of Kodiak today. Cameron would cold call retailers, in hopes to pitch to store buyers. He would physically bring in a griddle with Kodiak mix to make pancakes for the buyers while pitching, psychologically boosting their thoughts first handed. Listen as we talk about the origin story of Kodiak Cakes, his first pitches to Target and Costco, airing on Shark Tank, and the overall expansion of Kodiak Cakes as a brand.    Kodiak Cakes: https://kodiakcakes.com   Visit Starting Small Media: https://startingsmallmedia.org/ Subscribe to exclusive Starting Small emails: https://startingsmallmedia.org/newsletter-signup   Follow Starting Small: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/startingsmallpod/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Startingsmallpod/?modal=admin_todo_tour LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/cameronnagle
