Diese Prophezeiung löst jedoch nicht nur Begeisterung aus. König Herodes, selbst ernannter König der Juden und Herrscher über das Heilige Land Judäa, ist wie erstarrt im Angesicht dieser Prophezeiung. Unter allen Umständen möchte er diesen Rivalen um den Thron beseitigen und wenn er ihn schon nicht finden kann, dann sollen eben alle neugeborenen Jungen in Bethlehem sterben. Was folgt sind grausame Szenen, wie Soldaten kleine Babys aus den Armen ihrer Mütter reißen, abstechen oder an die Wand schmeißen. Doch welchen historischen Kern hat diese blutrünstige Weihnachtsgeschichte aus der Bibel? Wer war dieser König Herodes, der als Gegenspieler von Jesus, als Werkzeug des Teufels, bis heute den Anti-Christen schlechthin verkörpert? Welche Rolle spielt die große Schutzmacht Rom und speziell der neue Kaiser Augustus? All das werden wir historisch überprüfen und dabei erkennen, wie Vorurteile und Gewaltphantasien jeher unsere Erzählungen, speziell zu Weihnachten, bestimmen.
