Konrad Schultz - Head Physiotherapist Canberra Raiders, NRL

from How did you get into sport? · host Luis Resa

Send us Fan MailKonrad Schultz is the Head Physiotherapist for the Canberra Raiders in the NRL where he has successfully held the role for over 10 years, which is near unheard of in the industry of high performance sport. Konrad has also spent over 5 years as Head Physiotherapist for the Cronulla Sharks and prior to this spent time working for the Canterbury Bulldogs. Despite having worked at the highest level of Rugby League in the world for over 15 years, Konrad would have to be the most curious and humble sports physiotherapists that I have ever met. Enjoy listening to how Konrad went from first completing a bachelor’s in commerce and accounting to then going on to finish another 4 degrees and becoming one of the longstanding leaders in the field of sports injury management in professional Rugby League. Highlights from the episode… What made Konrad shift from a career in accounting to physiotherapy. How working tirelessly in private practice led to his first opportunity in sport with the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL. Konrad and I chat about the benefits of being in a job that you’re passionate about and the often unspoken cautionary tales of working in your passion.  After a period at the Bulldogs in the academy setting Konrad was offered the Head Physio role for his childhood club Cronulla Sharks.Konrad talks about the value he gained from completing further degrees and more importantly why he choose them.He provides daily schedule of how he navigated being a father of 3 young kids, working full time at a club and studying a masters degree.Konrad shares his experiences at Cronulla including the early success as well as being sacked by the club and how he navigated a challenging and very public fallout with the club. Konrad shares how he eventually cleared his name and how he got his next role as Head Physio for the Canberra Raiders.“Good medical teams are not seen nor heard”. The benefits of collaborating as oppose to competing with each other in the sports industry. We discuss how resumes don’t get you a job so chasing degrees may not be the most effective way to establish a career in high performance sport. We conclude with discussing one of Konrad's greatest strengths which has served him well during he's entire career...Curiosity!People mentioned: Tony Ayoub: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tony-ayoub-a7223338/?originalSubdomain=auKurt Lisle: https://thekneejoint.com.au/kurt-lisle/Matt Cameron: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-cameron-phd/?originalSubdomain=auMatthew Green: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-green-13817240/?originalSubdomain=auAndrew Gray: https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrew-gray-04b5b131/?originalSubdomain=nzSteph Brennan: https://www.linkedin.com/in/steph-brennan-838b6034/?originalSubdomain=au Konrad Schultz contact details:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/konrad-schultz-1b725538/?originalSubdomain=auHost: Luis ResaContact me on:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/luis-resa-a975196b/Email: [email protected] for listening and please leave a review.
