Kramer vs. Kramer

This week on Reel Sisters Rewind, sisters Amanda Stephens and Missy Washam are breaking their own rules once again… and standing by it. They rewind to Kramer vs. Kramer, a film released in December of 1979 that went on to dominate the early 80s awards season and become one of the most celebrated Oscar winners of the decade. A small rule bend, but one that absolutely earns its place in the rewind. For Missy, this was her first “big girl” movie… a film that moved beyond lighthearted entertainment and into emotionally complex, real-life storytelling. Together, Amanda and Missy walk through the powerful story of Ted and Joanna Kramer, examining themes of parenthood, sacrifice, identity, and what it truly means to show up for the people who matter most. They explore the unforgettable performances by Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, the quiet moments that linger, and why this film continues to resonate decades later. This episode is thoughtful, reflective, and deeply meaningful… a reminder that some movies do more than entertain. They shape how audiences see the world.
