Kurt Elling was born in 1967. He’s a Grammy award-winning jazz vocalist with 16 solo albums and has appeared with artists such as Bradford Marsalis, Brad Mehldau, the Manhattan Transfer, and Lee Ritenour. He recorded with my father on 2008’s When The Heart Dances. Nightmoves was released in 2007 on CD only and features, along with Elling, Laurence Hobgood, piano, Willie Jones III, drums, Christian McBride and Rob Amster, bass, Rob Mounsey, keyboards, Bob Mintzer, tenor sax, Guilherme Monteiro and Rumero Lubambo, guitar, Howard Levy and Gregoire Maret, harmonica, and the Escher String Quartet. The tracks are, in numerical order, Nightmoves, Tight, a medley of Change Partners and If You Never Come To Me, Undun, Where Are You My Love, And We Will Fly, Luiza, The Waking, The Sleepers, a medley of Leaving Again and In The Wee Small Hours, A New Body And Soul, I Like the Sunrise, and concludes with Well, Did You Evah (What A Swell Party This Is), a track that appeared exclusively on the Japanese version. Nightmoves was nominated for a 2007 Best Jazz Vocal Album Grammy.Charlie considered Kurt Elling to be one of the greatest jazz vocalists in history. His copy of Nightmoves was a pre-promo CD-R with xeroxed sleeve. He kept it in a small CD shelf by his stereo, along with one other Elling album and his own CDs.
