It’s important to recognize this and understand that neither are wrong, just different. Minimize distractions or completely eliminate them since they are a huge hindrance to effective communication. Put your phone on silent mode when in a meeting. Also, don’t let your emotions and biases change your message. Remember the acronym VEGA if you want to be an effective communicator. First is voice, you have to project, be audible and speak with an appropriate tone. Maintain good eye contact, if there are multiple people - do a general sweep of the room, don’t focus on just one person. Use gestures for emphasis but only minimally, don’t overdo it.
