KUT Interview: Scholar/Activist Calls For Safe Spaces "Where People Can Say The Wrong Thing" On Race

Voting rights; immigration; movement - building; economic empowerment; the media’s portrayal of race. Those are some of the topics on the table for “The Summit on Race in America” starting April 8, 2019 at the LBJ Presidential Library on the University of Texas at Austin campus. Another topic: the search for what the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. called "the Beloved Community." Dr. Peniel Joseph will be presenting about that. He is the founding director of the LBJ School’s Center for the Study of Race and Democracy and holds the Barbara Jordan Chair in Ethics and Political Values at UT-Austin. Joseph told KUT's Jennifer Stayton recently King’s concept has never been more relevant than it is today.
