KUT Interview: Starting The Conversation And Ending The Stigma Of Mental Illness

from KUT News · host KUT News

For some people, the holidays cannot come and go soon enough. They can come with a pretty strong case of the blues - depression or anxiety that can surge at this time of year. Mental health and mental illness are hard to talk about no matter the type or duration of the condition. To try and get the conversation started, KLRU’s “Decibel” news magazine is airing a special this month called “Mental Health: Ending the Stigma.” KUT's Jennifer Stayton talked recently with KLRU Editorial Director Judy Maggio and Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness - Austin Karen Ranus to find out why the stigma persists and what kind of progress is being made. KLRU's Decibel special "Mental Health: Ending The Stigma" airs December 28th at 7:30 p.m., December 29th at 6:00 p.m. and December 30th at 6:00 p.m.
