Kyle Adams

In this episode, I chat with Professor Kyle Adams from Jacobs School of Music. He is a professor of music in music theory, director of undergraduate studies, and aural skills coordinator. Professor Adams research spans two distinct areas: sixteenth-century music and hip-hop. In early music, he explores tonal structures, publishing on topics such as Renaissance chromaticism and polyphonic modes. In the realm of hip-hop, Professor Adams analyzes the relationship between rap lyrics and underlying beats, with his work appearing in leading journals like Music Theory Spectrum and The Cambridge Companion to Hip-Hop. Alongside his academic pursuits, he continues to perform as an accompanist, specializing in collaborations with singers and brass musicians.
