SAfm — KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, says officials - implicated in corrupt activities over a surplus supply of sanitary towels at schools - have been suspended. Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, ordered the forensic investigation in 2018 after two teacher unions raised red flags that over 100-million rand was spent on the supply of sanitary towels. Mshengu was providing a report of the provincial forensic investigation - during a media briefing in Durban. Mshengu also says that he doesn't understand why the sanitary pads were procured for grade 4s as well. According to him, grade 4 learners dont need sanitary towels.
