La Biblioteca de Alejandría

La Biblioteca Real de Alejandría o Antigua Biblioteca de Alejandría, fue en su época la más grande del mundo. Situada en la ciudad egipcia de Alejandría, se estima que fue fundada a comienzos del siglo III a. C. por Ptolomeo I Sóter, y ampliada por su hijo Ptolomeo II Filadelfo, llegando a albergar hasta 900 000 manuscritos. Es difícil señalar el momento exacto en que se produjo la destrucción de la Biblioteca de Alejandría. El hecho está envuelto en mitos y tinieblas, y hay que indagar en las fuentes para hacerse una idea de la secuencia de los acontecimientos.
