La Crosse mayor candidate Shaundel Washington-Spivey in studio discussing how to handle homelessness, hiring a city administrator, his lived experiences as both a black and a gay person, and the idea of bringing community together to solve local issues. Washington-Spivey is running against Chris Kahlow in the spring election, which concludes April 1. You can read more about the candidates on the WIZM election page. Kahlow also joined La Crosse Talk last week. We spent the first half of this conversation discussing homelessness in La Crosse, some of the council’s decisions on banning camping and how the Pathways Home plan is doing to help solve the issues. After that, we discussed how his life experiences have shaped him in terms of being La Crosse’s mayor.  We then got into the potential hiring of a city administrator in La Crosse and how Washington-Spivey and Kahlow differ on that issue and how it might work for the city. The last big thing we hit on is Washington-Spivey’s idea for bringing community together to both solve current issues and get out in front of things on the horizon.
