LA Fishing Report: Rockfish, Bluefin, and More Biting Strong

from Los Angeles Fishing Report Today · host Inception Point AI

Good morning anglers, Artificial Lure here with your Saturday fishing report for the Los Angeles area. We've got prime conditions shaping up today. The Tide Forecast shows our first low tide hit at 2:01 AM, with high tide rolling in at 8:22 AM. We'll see another low at 2:29 PM and a final high tide at 8:25 PM. The sun rose at 7:00 AM and we'll have light until 6:15 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to work with. Now let's talk about what's been biting. The action at 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro has been absolutely stellar. On October 11th alone, their boats brought in 272 rockfish, 134 whitefish, and 13 halibut. The Monte Carlo scored big with 147 rockfish and 45 sanddabs on their morning half-day trip. More recently, on October 15th, anglers hooked 10 yellowtail and landed 4 of them, plus 28 barracuda. The real excitement has been on the longer runs. The Freedom returned from their 1.5-day trip on October 6th with 56 bluefin and 7 yellowtail for 28 anglers. These tuna are running and they're hungry. The Pursuit has been finding yellowtail action too, though conditions have been challenging with wind and sea lions competing for your catch. For gear, if you're targeting those bluefin, you'll want heavy tackle with live bait – sardines or mackerel work best. For the yellowtail, try iron jigs in blue and white or scrambled egg colors. The rockfish and whitefish are hitting on squid and cut bait, while surface iron and live anchovies are producing for the barracuda. Two hot spots right now: First, head out to the islands for that whitefish and rockfish action – the Freedom crew scored 330 whitefish and 66 sheephead on September 28th. Second, if you're chasing those bluefin and yellowtail, you'll want to book a longer trip heading south where the action's been consistent. The weather's cooperating today, though keep an eye on afternoon winds. Water temps are holding steady and bait's been plentiful. Thanks for tuning in and be sure to subscribe for daily updates on where they're biting. This has been a Quiet Please production, for more check out quietplease dot ai.
