Labouring in Employment! Singapore’s immigration and its foreign workforce policies

Singapore’s immigration policies and its foreign workforce has been in the news once again. In this episode, we turn to look at the following issues in particular: why immigration is such a touchy issue in Singapore;the dichotomy between the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices, which advocates for fair and merit-based employment practices, and the Fair Consideration Framework, which requires employers to consider Singaporeans fairly for job opportunities; andthe use of intra-corporate transfers as a mechanism to bring foreign employees into Singapore.
