Water temps are ranging from 54-59 degrees, perfect for those big mommas to move up shallow. Folks have been hauling in good numbers of largemouth in the 3-7 pound range, with a few double-digit lunkers mixed in. One lucky angler even landed a 13-pounder last weekend! For lures, you can't go wrong with a chatterbait, spinnerbait, or fluke in 1-3 feet of water. Squarebill crankbaits are also doing the trick in 2-4 feet on flats and near ditches. If you're looking to sight fish, grab yourself a Senko or creature bait and work those spawning beds. Crappie fishing has been on fire too. They're stacked up in 6-20 feet of water, with some moving shallow to spawn. Minnows and small jigs are your best bet. For some hot spots, check out the northern protected arms and fingers like Little Caney. The old Highway 17 roadbed is also holding some big ones. And don't forget about Birch Creek - that area's been producing some real toad bass lately.
