Lake Fork Fishing Report: Memorial Day Weekend Bounty

Lake Fork is sitting at about 0.32 feet above pool with water temps holding steady between 73-78 degrees. Water's a bit stained in spots but still relatively clear in many areas despite some recent rains. The bass fishing has been GOOD, y'all! These post-spawn bruisers are hitting topwater like nobody's business. Early morning is prime time - get out on those points where the shad are spawning. Diesel chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and KVD sexy dawgs are tearing it up on the surface. If you're hitting the grass and pond weed in 1-4 feet, throw some frogs and hold on tight! As the morning wears on, switch to mid-running crankbaits in the 2.5-3.5 inch range, working points in 5-7 feet. For the afternoon bite, Carolina rigs are producing offshore on points and high spots in the 12-16 foot range. The crappie fishing is straight-up dynamite right now! We got a tremendous population of black crappie stacked up on all kinds of structure in 12-28 feet. The white crappie are also loading up on certain trees. Catfish are cruising shallow in 2-4 feet, and the big ol' bream have moved shallow too. For you fly fishers, small clousers and wooly buggers are producing some real nice fish. Hot spots this weekend? I'd hit Caney Point early for that shad spawn action, then move out to main lake points as the day heats up. The secondary points off the main channels have been holding some real nice post-spawn females too. For those wanting specifics, you can't go wrong with the pond weed in the backs of coves for frog fishing, and those offshore humps in 12-16 feet are holding schools of bass that'll make your drag sing! Sunrise was at 6:14 AM with sunset coming at 8:27 PM, so you still got plenty of daylight to get after 'em.
