Lake Ontario Renamed to Lake America | Calgary News

A fiery debate is heating up over Lake Ontario, with some Americans demanding it be renamed Lake America to protest what they see as years of unfair trade practices and currency imbalances. The push has gained traction, with major mapping services complying for U.S. users — citing overwhelming public support — while sparking fears of retaliatory moves from Canada. At the heart of the controversy are accusations of “non-tariff cheating” by foreign nations, including bans on U.S. goods and currency manipulation, framed as a nationalistic stand against perceived economic sabotage. This escalating spat highlights deepening tensions in international trade and identity, with both sides bracing for further fallout.
