Land Issue in South Africa

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

Parliament has adopted the report on the expropriation of land without compensation after the ANC’s majority ensured the report got the nod from MPs. But other opposition parties on Tuesday rejected the report and warned that this was setting South Africa on a dangerous path. The national assembly saw both the ANC and the EFF sing struggle song about land, something that hasn’t been seen in a long time. Major opposition party the Democratic Alliance confirmed that it would head to court to challenge the report and, in the debate, said it would vote against the report because its recommendation was a foregone conclusion, announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on television, well before the committee had completed its task.We are joined in studio by:1. Hon Lechesa Tseonli Deputy Speaker Parliament of South Africa2. Prof Ruth Hall Senior Researcher PLAAS (Institute of Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies)3. Dr Theuns Eloff Executive Director FW De Klerk Foundation
