Landfill Fire Smoke Alert for Calgary | Calgary News

A smoldering landfill fire in southeast Calgary, between 24th St SE and Barlow Trail SE, has been flaring up since Sunday, sending thick smoke over nearby neighborhoods. Fire crews are back on full alert, and Alberta Environment is monitoring air quality — while hourly averages haven’t breached official limits, they’re urging residents downwind — especially those with asthma, heart conditions, kids, and seniors — to stay indoors, avoid outdoor activity, and use air purifiers. Symptoms like coughing, headaches, or mucus are common; call 911 for breathing trouble. For general smoke questions, dial 811.
