Welcome to The Heavy Spoily Show, I'm your host Paul, and this video we're breaking down lanterns. After seeing the super secret origins of John Stuart last week, Episode 4 brings us back to 2016 as John and Hal continue their investigation. Dives into the mystery of Rushville and gives us some much needed answers as to what the hell's going on. This episode also puts a heavy focus on the developing relationship between John and Hal, as they both investigate each other while on their search for the manhood. Also reveals some pretty massive secrets that sets us up for the second half of the season.

As always, this episode is loaded with these three eggs as well, and references to the comics are like, if you're wondering what those guns are, we'll tell you stuff like that. We've also just launched our Green Lantern themed arsenal T-Share at the Mitch store below, along with our hard light one as well. We also have a Doom inspired one, and lots of different things inspired by movies, comics, and TV shows, and picking one up helps videos like this get made. Plus you get a discount the more you buy. The ring's always been mine, and I'll just keep it in the morning.

Now, we begin this episode with an extended scene of Episode 2's Clitanger, there we saw Hal going to see Sinestro in prison. No hello, no how am I been? This to me felt very silent to the lambs, with it being a sort of tettatet back and forth, a tettatet if you will, which is a phrase that I learned from that book. That scene was obviously brought to like brilliantly in the film though, and this was also the inspiration for the count of man scenes in Batman the Long Halloween. I love how bleak the cell is, and even the doorways completely blurry.

So these guys can literally do and see nothing. The sandcuffs are also glowing as well, which just adds to the sci-fi feel, and yeah, this is such a cool opening. In case you don't know, the guardians in prison are captives forever, and hold them in these cells where they just don't age. So their punishment lasts for an eternity, and I can't imagine what it's being like stuck here forever. Just don't press play on the screen crush video, no!

The cuffs are also glowing with yellow light. This is possibly hinting at him still being able to manifest the power of the air, even in the guardians prison, and this could be how he'll eventually escape. This could also be how the guardians are keeping him contained, with the signed cells in Westeros being kept in, being designed to negate his powers. So they could literally be using the power of the air to imprison him. Sinestro then asks Hal about John Stuart, even though the man hunter should be the more pressing issue. It shows how Sinestro's focused

on making Hal afraid, and he uses his fear to try and manipulate the character. Hal questions how he even knows about John, with Sinestro saying that it's not hard to believe that such big news as Hal having a trainee wouldn't find its way to him. But these shows that Sinestro may have some spies in Rushville, and there's possibly members of his Sinestro course somewhere out there. With the arise last week that they may have already attacked Earth, and this is what John was referring to on the news. So that's the case, it would make sense that some of the Sinestro call them as a stock on the planet, and are somehow beating him in Po. After asking a bit more about

John's background, and how the guardians found him, Sinestro then makes Hal admit what John really is. And he's not his backup, but his replacement. Meanwhile, we can see John at the motel where he gets a call from his dad. Just before this we see a sketch of Zoe and some birds, and I think symbolically, this plays in the idea that she's spying on him, and that's why she's aligned with these other sketches. I think this episode is all about how teachers can sometimes poison their students, and we have several mentors negatively affecting their protege. Sinestro of course plays into Hal's fear, and we

also have Hal as with John. Beyond that, the guardians are poisoning John as well, as they're making him spy on Hal. Both are aware that only in death will John take his place, so you can imagine that tensions would be high. John will get what he's always wanted through the downfall of Hal, and therefore they're not really set up to have a good relationship. But his dad tells him that the guardians need to speak with him, but John says he can't because him and Hal are working the case, which John's dad says is unacceptable. So we see that while John is taking his destiny into his own

hands, his parents are still very much pushing him on this journey. His dad even calls to his mum to get her to do it, showing how she's the one basically running the show. We then go back to Sinestro and Hal where Sinestro tells the former student that he knows he will eventually have to kill John. How that Hal says he won't because he's not evil like him, and then if the guardians want to replace him, they can go right ahead. He says that John is too perfect and boring anyway.

Sinestro then gives Hal a bit of information that he's looking for in the manhunters. Kind of playing in the Lactar exchange motif as Hannibal would only give things to Clarice after she talked about her private life. He claims that he knows certain aspects of their physiology that can't be changed when they take a new form. If one was still alive on Earth, it would be of great interest to the guardians and he says that if Hal should bring the man hunted to the guardians himself, that would disgrace John in the progress. It's the villain's powers of manipulation on full display here and he talks about John's weakness. He says that since all he does is follow orders, he'll be

easier to control and that his feelings and his will make him arrogant and oblivious to what Hal's really up to. Hal then asks Sinestro if that's how he fooled him, but Sinestro says he was never anything but himself and Hal just refused to see it. Now we all know that Sinestro is a bad guy, spoiler alert, and we can't see how he's definitely trying to influence Hal here. But I love how you can see that Hal is genuinely coming to him for advice. This builds up Leanna's line last week about how Hal still had feelings for Sinestro, which the guardians found troubling.

Here we can see why though, because while Hal isn't trying to be friends with him and in his mind he's just getting information, he's ultimately being corrupted by the villain. On the flip side of this, we can also see how John is sort of playing the same game with Hal. As Hal says, John claims he doesn't speak to the guardians, but we see here that's definitely not true. So that was a fucking lie. Leanna said that John was specifically being made to make Hal believe that he's just being trained as backup, which is pretty much the exact same things in Estros telling Hal to do here. It paints an interesting parallel between the heroes and villains, and yeah, let's be

honest, Lorelin, he isn't exactly an overplaying morally upright standing characters. Is that the phrase? I don't know, but even stuff outside of the Dream and Show like Mystic River. There was clearly a very manipulated character that she was playing, which you can definitely tap into, and I do think she was cast for that reason. We then cut back to Rushville as we pan over the sweet little town, and John heads into the local gun store to buy a scope. What do you sell in Stranger? Ah, since everyone

in town absolutely hates Hal, the customer immediately clocks John as his sidekick. He says he can't buy his scope on his own and just needs to buy the rifle too. All while his buddy stares John down from behind. Also, I love how he can see John's military training as a sniper in action here, and he knows exactly what kind of scope he needs for the job, which I feel like is a good example of the difference between John and Hal. John knows exactly what he needs, and he always plans ahead, but Hal literally flies by the seat of his pants. He steals bodies from the morgue, walks onto making his property,

not even thinking he'd be shot, and literally just shows up and announced. How that? We also see that the shop owner's bullshit does not face John at all. He simply just smiles it off and takes his scope off the rifle while handing him a water cache. Which, wait, where the hell did he get all that money from? I'm guessing the Guardians have been holding out on Hal and giving his salary to John.

Hey, y'all are blessed. Now one quick detail I want to point out here as well is as we're panning over Rushville, we can see a mural of a rainbow with a bunch of kids playing around it that reads be kind. Now I might be reaching out, I'll preface it by saying that, but I feel like this is meant to represent the emotional color spectrum of the Latins. We've talked before about how colors and emotions are everything in the green Latin world with each color corresponding to a human emotion. Now while this is a happy little mural for this school, I feel like this could be also symbolizing that there's some darker subtext to it. Could symbolize how the people in Rushville are about to be caught in the

middle of a battle between the Latins and the Manhunter. And quite possibly some other Latins on the emotional spectrum. Have you noticed changes in your energy, mood or body as you've gotten older? Now we're about to talk about something that your 25-year-old self would high-five you for fixing and it's a way to get you feeling like you did back then. Most of us, yeah, we just shrug it off and say, hey, I'm getting older, but your body isn't broken. Just needs a little help holding the system that you still run it on

autopilot. And that's where home comes in. This is real medicine, physician prescribed and personalized. For me, I'm currently training for a half marathon, so having energy and the consistency to keep going is something I've been paying a lot more attention to as I've gotten older. Home is an excellent way to hone your body and here's how it works. You get your test, schedule and then complete a blood draw

in a local lab. This tests for over 50 biomarkers, including testosterone, heart health, metabolism and more. You then have a video consult with a licensed physician who reviews the results and builds a personalized treatment plan specifically for you. Once this is approved, they can provide treatment for TRT, hair loss, peptides, supplements and more. Medications are then shipped to your door and with them being tailored specifically for you. You're going to have an actual treatment plan that boosts you

beyond just generic vitamins and supplements. Now, I'm not a medical professional, but home connects you with a licensed physician who discusses the benefits and risks of treatment. My exclusive link is in the description below. Hit that and lock in at $65 test plus treatment plan and let's get you back to feeling strong, sharp and ready to go. Your future self is already waiting to thank you, so hit that link, get that $65 test and improve how you feel and go back to feeling younger. Thanks.

We then see John putting his new sculptor good use as he's keeping an eye-mechan's compound from the Rushville Water Tower. We have seen this throughout the series and it's nice that they just use it as a set PCA. John also notices a helicopter coming in, but half lies down right in front of his legs. Again, showing how John's come prepared for a proper recon mission, but Hal just thinks he can drop in and find whatever he's looking for immediately. This can also be seen as Hal showing off his experience, similar to him scanning the scene at the football field.

There John went through the scene step by step while Hal had already figured it out. This also feels like a callback to last week where we saw John suddenly waiting patiently to find an opportunity to complete his sniping mission, which was also ruined by Hal. Hal then asks John if there's any updates on Macon's mysterious benefactor, but John tells him to call him the manhunter as it sounds less stupid. So okay, I guess we're just running with Macon's boss being a manhunter, which I disagree with. We all know it's Noah. Hal back. John wasn't able to see he was in the helicopter

since Hal ruined his view. He says how it would've been nice if Hal was actually there since he can't fly, however Hal claims he was too busy bagging aliens in space, which is funny and totally something Hal would do. But we know it's a lie. That was a fucking lie. Kind of shows that Hal's all talk but also highlights how his former mentor's advice to manipulate John is coming into play. John then gives

Hal a rundown of everything he's observed on the ranch and his four god towers all centered around the same spot, which is most likely where they're keeping the manhunter. That building is a weenie. Why do you say that? But why is that? Well, we'll tell you, it's actually a reference to an architectural term invented by Walt Disney which would describe buildings that he'd build his pocks around. John said a good example of this is Sleeping Beauty's Castle. But this is actually a real

thing as well and originated from Walt Disney's ugly routine of sharing a hot dog or as he called him weenies with his dog Lady who inspired Lady and the tram the more you know. Upon noticing how excited the dog was every time he grabbed the weenie and would follow him around it inspired well to create fantastical physical elements in the park that would draw people into a specific space. We also get hilarious line from Hal about how the manhunter is in making zwini and John even throws some jokes at himself. We will be seeing a weenie later too. He does seem to be lighting up after the joke and the gun store though and I do want to know if this is setting him up for his fall later on. The guy's now kind of dropping his god because he thinks he's figured things out but

ultimately this proves to be his weakness. With a possible location on the manhunter Hal and John and hatchet plan of breaking the makens weenie but Hal says he needs to let Sheryl carry in on what's going on. This goes back to that agreement in episode 2 and John's just like Sheryl. Hal shares him it's just business and then he's not a home wrecker like John. Hal offers to give John a ride saying that he can carry him like a baby or ride on his back like a horse. Such a funny

exchange but all about this scene shows John and Hal actually working together for like the very first time. Hal is actually listening to what John has to say. He takes his lead on the plan to infill tray make and zwini and they're even cracking jokes together. Just a couple of mates saving the universe but I feel like this is also showing how John and Hal are both playing their little mind games with each other. John is trying to be a bit less serious and playing to Hal's mortal youth attitude. Meanwhile Hal is being a lot more supportive of John and not trying to undermine

him as we've seen him do throughout the entire series which is exactly what's an extra told them to do. So while it's nice seeing these two finally coming together it's also kind of sad because we know neither of being genuine. With NC Hal and John meeting Kerry at a bar to fill her in on the plan this is owned by Billy Macon with Kerry saying that everyone in rushable multitasks which I could be over analyzing I admit but I felt like this was kind of a weird response. To me it feels like she's playing in the theme of the show and that no one is really doing the job that they say they're doing. They're doing something behind the scenes secretly. We touched upon this in a bit

of our breakdown last week but you can't see this being applied to pretty much everyone in the series. Both John and Hal are trying to manipulate each other for the title of the Green Lantern, this making and his mysterious boss Kerry who's actually a cane and obviously knows more than she's saying. Even the Guardians. Hell they even appeared to John and his family in a human form hiding their true identity. Plus Noah is the man hunter as well. This also reminds me of Kerry just kind of

shrugging Hal off in episode two after noticing there were no other patients in the hospital and all the equipment was still in his packaging and she's like ahh small town you know. So yeah something is going on. Now I do like Kerry and I don't want to believe she's the villain all this but she is definitely hiding something and whenever that something is it has to do with everyone in Rushville I caught ya. This could also be why she told Hal that she's not on his or making side but is in fact on the town side. It's all a giant hive mind of man hunters. You also see

that Hal lets John take the lead and Hal carry about the man hunters and their plan to break into the compound. This is another example of Hal Hal's following Sinestro's playbook and trying to make John feel like he's accepting him as a partner. However we can also see that John and I's another call from his father which we know is about him meeting with the audience. So John is also playing the same kind of metal games with Hal. John and Hal's carry all about the man hunters and how they're on the clock before Rushville's blown to shit by Anton. Really though Kerry asks how they know she's

not the man hunter if it couldn't backbeat anyone. Don't worry though Kerry, you are on the list. Hal explains that he knows she can't be the man hunter because he locked her up and found that she moved to Rushville before Abin's crash with the man hunter. So whoever it is wouldn't be less in the public records before the crash. Hal also confirms that Kerry was telling the truth about being from Gotham and mentions that she had bangs in her photo. And wait hold on a second is Sheriff

Kerry actually Batwoman. Well after learning that Kerry was from Gotham in episode 2 we put the pieces together that she must be part of the Kane family in Gotham. This is the immediate family of Martha Kane and Bruce's cousin K Kane who is Batwoman in the comics. K K K wears away gual in her bat suit but just take a guess at how she wears it in her everyday life. That's right, bangs. And you can see Kerry

has a kind of terrified reaction to this like oh shit don't please don't say anything else. We originally joked as well that it would be crazy for her to be K Kane and that she was most likely just relative but this seems to confirm that Kerry is actually possibly playing a version of K from the comics. This means that she's Bruce Wayne's cousin and may have already spent some time with the Bat family which is most likely why she played to Rushville. This does seem kind of crazy to me because yeah I can't imagine a sweet share of Kerry running around on rooftops in Gotham but hell we don't really know anything about the DCU Batman or Gotham in general. I never even considered this as a possibility but maybe we'll even get off first look at the dark knight himself in this series.

Which a week ago I would have said no way but we basically had a Batman reference in every episode obviously you know that he was in creature commandos they could do something like that with this little wett and yeah what if he turns up as part of something going on here maybe even Bruce could show up to help save the town or something. I don't know but if that happens I'm gonna freak out they might save Batman for clay paste though or might not even use him there and while this is a huge bombshell that could lead to nothing. I don't think this is the secret that she's hiding from Harlan John. Also I didn't point out earlier in the series that she did say say hi to Barbara and now that we know she's from Gotham this is most likely Barbara Gordon but with Kerry's secret identity sake but now Hal goes on to say that they think the man hunter is making some serious boss Kerry says she's never met him despite being married to Billy but that she'll help them breaking to find out she warns them that they're only gonna have one shot to pull off this heist so they better not miss. You got it batwoman um Sheriff Kerry but everyone's working together and yeah like I said I really like Sheriff Kerry so I love seeing her be fully part of the team here.

It also shows how she's living up to her and to deal with Hal with him being more transparent with her and Kerry doing what she can't help if it means saving the town back of the motel. Hal and decides it would be better to wait for night to begin the heist so they head to their rooms and after a little light flicker the anitella port's in shows that they can almost be omnipresent and the guardians can arrive at places whenever they want to. This makes me think that they could appear down the line at a crucial moment but it also highlights how they choose not to be there sometimes as well. They could have easily of checking on John's parents whenever they wanted but shows not to so John was constantly put in danger and basically groomed to be Aladdin. It shows again how many people live that they are and we really see that in the scene.

He's not too happy John's been ghosting her and John doesn't even tell her about the man hunters. He tries to cover his ass by explaining that the reason he didn't contact them was because he was worried Hal would hear him from the next door. The end of the day asks John if he knows where Hal was last night. She then reveals he wasn't out banging some alien birds but instead went to see his former teacher's in a stroke. So clearly the guardians have their own ways of monitoring things as well which you would kind of expect in a prison however John doesn't know shit. Leanna

says it doesn't matter because if anything this is just a spread of the process of firing Hal. This means that all John needs to do is take the ring and say the old to take his place as the Green Lantern and he does kind of get the opportunity later. Now this is great yeah but John asks why he's the one who has to do it and that's a fair point. Like imagine you get a new job but you have to fire the person you're replacing yourself. How about Guardian Leanna just straight up starts manipulating John. She says that maybe they were wrong about him and that he has the same weaknesses as for

that. This is something his mother also clearly pressed on him as well and his entire life he's been brought up to not be like his dad which is wild and yeah I can't imagine what that does to you. Especially if you're like John's senior as well and everyone's like don't grow up to be a fucking bum like this guy. It's clearly the Guardians using his fear as well and again it makes them parallels to Snessetrop. She also mentions Hal's reports on John's training where he says that John lacks creativity and is too weak to handle the power of the ring and John of course takes the bait saying that Hal is old as shit and that the ring has always been his. The ring's always been

mine and I was just keeping it warm. Then go and get it. Whoa Leanna did not make that very subtle. She knew exactly how to press John's buttons and he just stayed it up. Now this also feels like a call back to last week's episode as this is the exact same move that John's mum pulled on him when he was younger. He told him that the reason the Guardians wouldn't answering them was because they knew

John was still afraid. This shows that pretty much everyone in John's life is forcing a sussing on him and that he's never really had a choice to decide for himself. With NC John really took his meeting with the Guardian to heart as he pounds on Hal's door and is ready to get the mission going. He says that he knows Hal is probably planning on making a giant green fist and just flying in with his ass out. Much like he did during the sniper mission in episode 3 but John actually has a plan.

He shows him a drawing of a giant drill that he made up with a plan to tunnel into the compound from underground. Which Hal is actually impressed by. John's obviously just heard that he lacked creativity in his report to the Guardians so this is him showing he can do things. John's mentioned of Hal creating a giant fist to punch his way into the compound is also kind of a joke slash reference to some of the early green lantern comics where Hal would often basically just spam this attack. Which is constantly due like giant fists and boxing gloves to fight crime. That was until

the writers really started to explore the capabilities of the Green Lantern constructs and they even had a rule where Cal Rayna was not allowed to have the same construct twice in the entire run. This could also be a subtle reference slash jab to Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern where one of the first things he did with the ring was make a giant fist when getting into a fight in a parking lot. We then get them outside making this compound where Hal offers John the ring and tells him to make his drill. What are you gonna do? Say it, say it, John, say it! Freddy say it!

Hold up! We see John hesitate and looks at the ring for a good moment and then at Hal while this score gets super intense. Sure of course there's a lot of self-control in patience and I think it's actually I don't know a kind of thing of the moment finally arriving and not knowing what to do with it. John is trained like his entire life to take the ring and now the moment's funny here but it's not the way he envisioned it and therefore he doesn't want to do it. Now you will often find this in real life if you've been training and working for something for so long when it gets to that moment you kind of fumble the ball yeah oh shit it's actually happening I better fucking oh fuck kind of think about him like that bit in the possession where Nicky asks there if you like certain he's like no he realizes he fucked up right after and then ruins everyone's life spoiler it on that film but he's probably doing the smarter thing by keeping Hal around at least until I find the man hunter. Because even

though John could be stronger at using the ring Hal has the experience. John's never even fallen alien before a little on a man hunter so he's making a tactical decision here not because he doesn't want to take it from Hal but yeah it just doesn't make sense to do it in this moment but fuck that old guy's don't he then builds the drill assembling a piece by piece like he did with his dad's watch last week as it turns beneath the ground we then see howling John have another little bonding session as they make their way in the ground Hal also asks John about his mum and we learn that Hal's mum died of cancer which we see genuinely affects John's concentration he tells Hal he's sorry but Hal just says not being close to anyone makes the job easier. Although I can see the news of Hal's mum being dead it's quite a shock to John as well and that he's kind of looking at Hal differently. We know from just a moment ago that John thinks Hal is a washed up loser who never deserved the ring because he never hits the thumbs up this is a sentiment echoed by Mrs. Stewart so it feels here that John is finally realizing that there's more to Hal's story than it's the eye in this moment he realizes that he's overcome real trauma. I think everyone is kind of making snap judgments in the show almost to a fault

Hal's surprised to learn John went to art school and the stewards thought that Hal had it easy. Plus even the way the guardians recruit people that is a massive snap judgment like that thing of showing up and shouting are you afraid and then taking the immediate answer I don't know if that's the best way to pick the right person for the job. Fuck was I not supposed to be scared? Hell even John waiting for nine months on his sniper mission and then Hal rushing in off quit judgment that all shows that people are just making these snap decisions that ruin everyone's life. Like how completely derail John's entire military career so it's just lots of interesting dynamics that make these three-dimensional characters. Hal and opens up a bit about his father saying that he died as a

hero and was fearless. At least that's what he wanted people to think though. This sort of feels like Hal is also talking about himself here and how he's become so shit off from the world. He says it's because he's fearless and doesn't care about anyone but in reality he's lonely and afraid that he loses anyone he gets close to. This is why Hal doesn't answer John when asked what his father was afraid of. Hal questioning whether his father is really fearless is also a reference to his relationship

with him in the comics. There Hal always wondered if his father died in fear which became a source of fear in himself and it's one of the reasons he dedicated himself to becoming a pilot. That was to not only honor his dad but also prove he could overcome the fear he may have felt. This is also why in the show Hal says he became fearless after watching his father die. Similarly he was trying to prove to himself that he can be a hero like his father and be fearless. Almost as a way to convince himself

that his father died heroically and wasn't afraid. This story about Hal's mom is also pulled straight from the comics where she developed cancer. This came right after she and Hal had a falling out over him joining the Air Force. She died a few years later which Hal's brother blamed him for saying his decision to follow in their father's footsteps drove her to an early grave. Although that's not really the case it's definitely a guilt that Hal carried with him for a long time. I would

imagine this is similar in the show as well as would be another source of fear Hal had to overcome. Now while his life was definitely not as intense as Sean, Hal was unknowingly also training himself since he was a child to be fearless. This is probably why this also surprised as Sean and he realized that Hal was able to overcome Pierre without any parental guidance. Hal likely just answered the Guardians question on autopilot and said he wasn't afraid because that's what he conditioned himself to be like. John instead had parents who made him that way with him even saying in episode 3 that he owes them everything. I feel like it's also sort of sheds him all light into

the whole fearless concept of being a Green Lantern where the show has kind of made it out to be like you can never feel fear over anything no matter what. However in the comics it's not so much about being afraid but more so that someone's will is strong enough to overcome their fears. Even there the ring states that the person that shows has the ability to overcome great fear. So this conversation at least to me it feels like a show is hitting out the idea of fear being more complex than the Guardians making out to be. I think that Hal still feels fear over losing those close to him but he's able to overcome it. He also feels fear over being replaced by John but that doesn't seem like it's

something he can come to terms with. This is a lesson John probably needs to learn as well as his whole life's revolved around the idea of never being afraid of anything. How about feeling fear and being able to overcome it is what makes someone truly fearless and something John will have to face before he can become a Green Lantern like he's meant to be. I feel but yeah think about it yeah if you've never felt fear how can you really be fearless. John hasn't had to overcome fear because he's never felt it and it makes the idea of him being afraid of fear in itself and one that he doesn't even realize he has. But some of the scene of them together on the water tower I love how I'm getting these little

moments of John and Hal working together. Despite the fact that both of them are trying to manipulate each other it feels like they're both being genuine here and that Hal was actually opening up to John for the first time. And there was a lot to unpack here now let's get back to the heist. So once John's drill reaches the surface the two army crawl across the compound to avoid the snipers and they make their way to the weenie. Also know as Hal Hal is actually letting John take the lead. He follows him into the

weenie as John makes sure the coast is clear and lets him keep the ring which we have seen numerous times how quickly Hal takes the ring from John after their training sessions. This shows that Hal is trusting that John is capable enough to handle whatever they find in making his weenie. Halah once inside instead of finding a man hunter they discover that makin has been building his own arsenal of alien weapons. We then see that makin keeps his weenie pretty well guarded as Hal steps on a trip mine. Also notice how just before Hal steps on the booby trap he tells John to give the ring back.

This highlights that Hal realizes that this is a real threat that John isn't ready for. You can also see John's military experience and action as he knows exactly what it is and warns Hal not to move or he'll set it off. Hal also makes reference to this happening in a movie which they both agree is great. This is a classic trope in a lot of films but given this takes place in 2016 a feel this could be referring to 2015's landmine goes click. They're a group of tourists accidentally step on a landmine and are terrorized by a group of psychos before they escape by replacing the white john. Then once again shows his creativity by asking Hal how much he weighs and creating a

constructive kettlebell. Ween the same amount as Hal he hopes of switching them before a detonate. Which John also picks up like a sack of groceries with perfect form. How about this Indiana John's plan turns out the same for John as it did for indie. Hal was a little off on how much he weighs a bit like the movie Batman 1989 and the tilesets off the alarms. Which we can't really blame Hal for. We've

all lied about our wait. We then see makings goons rushing carrying the aiming weapons that shoot out a black mist as John goes to use the ring. I'm sure that we're going to learn more about what these weapons do but I have a few ideas from the comics that could shed some light on what these are. As Hal says these are pretty high tech weapons which could mean they were created by the armors of court. In the comics these are the eternal enemies of the guardians and they learned to forge antimatter weapons that were able to neutralize the positive matter of greenlight constructs.

Making confirms in a moment that they were designed specifically for the lanterns so this gun could be an antimatter weapon created on court that makings benefactor secured to him. However I feel like this could also be a version of what's called the cosmic divine rod in the comics. This is weapon used by the villain Blackhand that drains the life force out of people and contains the power of the black which represents death on the emotional color spectrum and the absence of emotional light. During the blackest night event in the comics the blackhand uses the cosmic rod to raise the dead and form the black lantern core. Powered by the black light of the emotional spectrum they serve the primal entity of darkness called Necron. So if making is indeed the blackhand like we've been

theorizing this could be an early version of him trying to develop the cosmic divine rod. He could think of it as just being a way to drain the green lens powers without realizing what he's actually unleashing. This would also line up nicely with the comics as the cosmic rod originally drained the power from the green lantern ring. It wasn't until much later in Jeff John's green lantern run that it was revealed to be devised made by atrocities in order to contain the power of the black. And Trusted saw a vision that William Hand was the host for Necron which could be something that they end up doing here. However this could also just be a practical weapon meant to disorientate

the lanterns as they require intense focus to maintain their constructs. That can be neutralized if they lose concentration or are unable to think creatively. Which is something making most likely learn from his man hunt of us with John and Hal taking captive that then brought to make it in his office where he once again tries to big ball them. Literally he tells John that his wife said he's is an artist and shows him his real weenie before asking him to draw. Jack I want you to draw me like one of your french girls. Woah man put that thing away. What kind of meeting is this?

Have been in these before but not this one's weird. We didn't see making due to a similar move when he first met him and he was chopping up those ribs while talking to Hal and John. It's just a classic bad guy move to try and signify how powerful that making things he is. He's fully exposing himself to show he doesn't feel threatened and you can also see this little cube sitting on his desk. This looks exactly like the camera that Macon set up outside the football field meaning he could be recording his whole conversation or it might show that the man hunt is tuning in. We will also see later on that these things are much more than cameras and can't shoot

laser beams so this could be an added assurance to Macon that Hal and John won't twist his nuts off. Macon then has Zoe bring John some charcoal and a pad of paper making her stay in the room as John begins his sketch. Hal also mentions again how weird all this stuff is and he says that he's been to a planet of sentient tentacles but hasn't seen anything like this. This could be a reference to the alien race known as the Dailens in the comics as the shape shifters who typically appear as a humanoid mass of tentacles. They fought against Aladdin's in the Green Lantern uprising event which he could be referring to here. As Macon then struts about naked he throws on some classical music

as he posts for John and Hal asks him about his darkness guns. They seem to be specifically designed to disable Green Lantern's and Macon reminds him that he told them they were prepared for any kind of invasion. How about Aladdin's should have nothing to worry about as long as they don't pose a threat to his boss. Making them reveals that his boss not only finances him but also saved his life by curing him of cancer. This is where he met Zoe and he says that she was his nurse and kept him alive until a man hunter came and cured him. Macon then goes into a supervillain

monologue on how great his boss is and how everything changed after he showed up. The crops grew, everyone watching this video subscribed to the channel and basically the town began to thrive. He brings up Hal Hal so no one in the hospital because no one gets sick anymore and that the man hunter takes care of them in exchange for his protection. Now running under the assumption like Hal and John that Macon's boss is the man hunter I think he will most likely be revealed to be the Grandmaster from the comics. This is one of the man hunters who came to earth during the Middle Ages and became a leader of people. Taking the name Grandmaster he secretly embedded himself

and the man hunters into human society. He orchestrated the world's events from behind the scenes and formed a man hunter cult. Yeah they'd recruit humans to work as their man hunter agents who were unaware that they were all really androids. Feel like this is what they could be adapting for the show with Macon and the people of Rushville being part of the man hunter cult and basically helping to spread the grandmasters influence on earth. This would also indicate that there's more than one man hunter hiding on earth which we do get a hint like that which I'll talk about at the end. Hal and Hal and

tells Macon to cut the shit and not even bother threatening them because if he gets killed Macon will have an army of lanterns coming to knock at his door. Hal that Macon points out that John isn't Hal and before he can threaten to kill him their little meeting is then broken up by Kerry who tells Macon to put his wee new way and she rescues John and Hal by arresting them for trespassing. He also makes sure to grab Hal's ring and John presents his strong to Macon which he pulled off lawlessly. Kind of shows as well that how none of Macon's threats were able to phase him or break his concentration and it's quite a big power move. Back at the motel Kerry is pissed though that Hal and John screwed up their shot at Macon. She tells them that in the meantime she's been digging through

Billy's files and is quite close to figuring out who Macon's boss is sure to stay out of the way though and just lock themselves in the motel until she figures it out. How that Kerry doesn't leave without giving them a little bit of protection. She hands John a shotgun and Hal is ring saying that Macon knows where they are and will comfort them. We then see John holding up in his room as he calls his mum to tell her about his meeting with the audience. He tells her that the audience are making John take the ring from Hal but misses Stuart's or for it. She says Hal is charming but

John had better not have fallen for it and needs to maintain his focus. How about the conversation is interrupted when John notices a car pulling into the motel. He then grabs the shotgun only defined Zoey standing at the door. Holding her at a gunpoint she then comes in and claims that she came here on her own but John keeps the gun on her and asks why. Zoey just kind of stands there and then moves closer to John and they just start making out and eventually shag again. Now John,

yeah I've got to say mate I don't dislike John and Zoey having this little love story as a way to test John's commitment to the laddens but you seem a bit stupid. I think though it just builds off Hal's line about not being close to people which makes the job easier but this was kind of silly. I mean you're literally just confirmed that Macon is working for the man hunter and John just lets her walk on in for a quick shag with no explanation. After their bang session Zoey then says they can't see each other and that John basically has the choice to leave town or get killed. How about John says he can't leave because he feels like everyone is lying to him. Including Zoey.

Yeah no shit dude. Oh that Zoey claims that if she tells John what she knows everything will change. He asks what Zoey owes making in order for her to go along with his soul and she reveals that he's the one who owes her. He says that she saved his life when he was dying and is now trying to say John's. Have that John still refuses to leave town and as Zoey leaves a giant laser then blows up her car from the sky. Holy shit Hal then sprints out to fly up and find a satellite dish that has the same

type of camera that we saw on the football field and also making a desk. Also I love how John tries to give Hal the exact coordinates of where the laser came from but Hal says just a point. Again it shows how John is more tactical and precise while Hal just follows his gut but god damn that was crazy. Now the show has kind of been a slow burn on this man hunter mystery which isn't a bad thing but I feel like we needed like a little jolt to really kick this thing into high gear. We then see Kerry arrive at the motel where Hal's put a shield over the building to prevent another attack. As Kerry

sits down to go but what happened you can also see that she notices Zoe's wedding ring on the nightstand and gives a grim look. Maybe she's just sad about her mother-in-law but it could also be her questioning whether John had something to do with it. Kerry and Hal then go over her findings from Billy's files while John tingers away at the satellite. We also see Kerry and Hal have another little moment where she asks what she's gonna tell her son about his grandma being blown up and Hal just gently grabs her hand. He says to tell Noah that they're gonna catch you ever killed her. Oh as John cracks up in the satellite

and then run the serial number through a government database to find it's registered to a company called Atlas Inc. This is owned by a man named Hector Hammond. Kerry says he owns a string of high tech slaughterhouses and she can't find a record of him in pre-1986 which is the air Abensorship crashed and as I've been saying this whole time he's the man hunter. We will meet Hector in a moment but in the comics Hector Hammond is one of Hal John's biggest earthbound villains. Originally Hammond was a petty criminal who was exposed to radiation from a meteor and this increased his intelligence.

However over time the radiation caused Hammond's head to grow comically large and it also gave him psychic powers. He then swore avenge on Greenland after he filed his plans of using his powers on a group of scientists to develop high tech weapons. In his most recent origin post-infinite crisis Hammond work is a consultant at Ferris aircraft alongside Hal Jordan. Hammond hated him because he was in love with Carol Ferris and he gained his psychic powers and a giant cranium out of being exposed to another meteor as part of the search team that investigated Avon Sayers' crash site. The heck to Hammond we'll see in a moment seems a lot different to his comic book counterpart as I don't really think they're going with either of those in the show but it's a cool nod to one of Hal's classic villains that could potentially open the doors for him to get that big ass head.

Also I think the end 1986 is very very crucial obviously you know we've seen the show we've got 2016, 2016, 2016, and 2016. Lots of 6's along there and I do feel like 1986 is possibly going to be a year that we jump back into. Now defining the location of Hammond's nearest slaughterhouse Hal is ready to go and put his place in but John tells him that it's too easy. He questions why Hammond hasn't killed him yet if he's got lasers in the sky watching them. He realizes that Hammond wasn't trying to threaten them but was sending an invitation. Which Hal is not only impressed by but actually praises

John for. This again shows how he's following Sinestro's advice and starting to make John believe that he's actually embracing him which I don't think is completely alive but Hal is definitely thinking about what Sinestro told him as you can see he cuts himself off from telling John to shut the hell up before asking him to elaborate. As John and Hal make their way to the slaughterhouse, Hal then asks John how he's holding up after seeing Zoe blown up. This shocks John who points out that Hal has never once asked him how he is but he says that he's handling it. Hal then gives him some harsh advice of being a Green Lantern. He says that people dying is part of the job and that

John needs to avoid personal relationships from now on. Being a lantern you see is a lonely job. I feel like this ties back to what we talked about earlier with Hal having to overcome Pierre rather than not knowing Pierre in the first place. He's afraid of losing those who are close to him which is why he keeps him at a distance. That's his way to overcome that fear and not let it overpower his well. Rather we talked about with John how he was trained to never know fear at all. This takes

a more literal interpretation of being fearless while there's no doubt that John is fearless. I think there's a bit more to it than that. John will have to eventually learn to embrace his feelings to prove his will, can overcome the fear that he doesn't know he has yet. I feel like that's hinted at by Hal here as well saying that it looks like John is shushing down his feelings. His lesson here is that it's okay to be upset about Zoe being killed but that he can't let that emotion overpower him. John then asks Hal if he ever talks to the other lanterns but Hal says

nobody likes him since they're all aliens. He mentions how one of them is a squirrel which is a reference to the Green Lantern chuip. Chuip this is an alien squirrel from the planet Hirvan who was in the same recruitment class as Hal while training on OA. We see John then make a subtle play for the ring when asking Hal what his plan is to confront Hammond. He suggests that Hal should give him the ring as Hammond won't expect it. Hal says fuck that and that this isn't a training exercise but that

he appreciates John's confidence which again I love seeing how these two are unknowingly playing into each other's mind games. John is trying to get the ring while Hal is trying to encourage John but only to screw him over. Hal is trying to encourage John but only to screw him over. Hal is trying to think that we can see here how neither of them are entirely lying. They are actually starting to understand each other better as they try to betray one another. Once at the slaughterhouse Hal and

John then walk in to find Hammond but are completely ignored by the workers. They just walk right past them and continue on with their workers Hal asks them where Hammond is. They then make their way into an all-white room that looks like a meeting room on the severance floor. Here they see a cow a major on a black hole in the wall and I felt it looked very similar to the black hole at the audience created a transporter John to them all last weekend which is something that we mentioned in our trailer breakdown. This could also hint at the manhunter using guardian technology as well to develop the weapons that we saw making using. This would make sense as the manhunters were

created by the guardians and most likely remember some of the tech they used while they were on OA. Hal but we can also see that the room is covered with those camera lasers that we've been seeing all episode. They activate once the cow comes through the black hole and slice it up into perfect pieces based on the buttches of a cow. Hal creates a bubble around him and John as well to stop them from being covered in its blood which you can see John turns away from but Hal watches the whole thing. Now I don't even have to point out the reference because John does it for us but he says that that's why he's vegan. Thank you for letting us know John but leave the details to me.

I do think this is actually born out of John's trauma though as after every apple shot his parents would get him a cheeseburger. This then changed the ice cream after John asked for it but they were still shooting apples off his head so maybe him going vegan is because he associates meat and dairy with the near-death experiences he had with his parents. Making it out the death room they then find Hector Hammond sitting in his office instead of saying hello he just gives them the address to John's parents house which is quite a big bore move. This was another thing with the rise in our trailer video and shouts to everyone he pointed out that the house has the satellite dish that John's mum told his dad to put up in episode 3. He reveals he has a satellite pointed at the house and says that he will blow it up in the next three minutes unless he enters a code to stop it which basically ensures they won't kill him. Hal calls bullshit and tells him to stop playing

games but Hammond focuses on John. He reveals that he knows about John being recruited by Antane to find him and that he can save his family by giving them exactly what they want. He calls him to say he found the man and then leads him into an ambush at the slaughterhouse. Hammond then tries to turn Hal in and he's been watching them closely and he pulls out a recording of John's meaning with Leanna. Here Hal hears John say he's old, a piece of shit and not worthy of the ring. Hal,

Hal just kind of eats it and instead of freaking out at John he asks Hammond what colour Abin's skin was. He's basically using his Harry Potter interrogation technique but Hammond claims that he can't remember anything. He says he's met lots of aliens but Hal once again calls bullshit and threatens to rip out his heart if he doesn't tell him where the real man hunter is. Hal says that an old friend told him that the heart is the only organ that the man hunt is called replicate. We of course know this was Sinestro who told him this and it's interesting how Hal calls him his old friend. Could just be semantics here I'll admit that but he could have just also said

someone told him instead of calling him a friend which could show how Hal really still values Sinestro as a friend and a mentor. Warning Hal like killing him would also kill John's parents, Hal doubles down and says he wouldn't have given a shit even before hearing that recording. Now though he thinks it might be good for John and his hero's journey to lose his parents. So the plan backfired. Now you often see in fiction that characters are often orphans and Hal himself even lost his parents. But Batman, Superman, basically every Disney hero ever, they probably

lost a parent. Meanwhile we see John start freaking out begging Hal to stop as he gives Hammond his own countdown of 10 seconds while the timer on Hammond's laptop continues counting down. However as Hal grabs Hammond he breaks the act and admits that he's human. Hal then turns the laptop around and makes him insert the code to stop the lasers and holy shit that wasn't tense. Now while I think it was obvious to us that Hal was intentionally trying to provoke Hammond into confessing by making him think he's crazy we see John genuinely lose his coolness moment and I dare say he looks afraid. I don't even think

we've seen John raise his voice throughout this entire show and here he's pretty much screaming at Hal to stop playing with his family's lives. Which is understandable for most people but not for John. Show is exactly what we've been talking about throughout this episode though with the difference between feeling fear and being fearless. John has been conditioned to not even know what fear is since he was born. This means that he's never really had to overcome fear because he's never learned it in the first place. How that despite John's training he is still human. This is something

he pointed out himself just a minute ago and unlike the other alien laddens he also has human emotions. Including fear. Through this though his inability to recognize fear actually becomes weakness as it leaves him more vulnerable to the emotion taking over him. Again that also doesn't mean John isn't fearless and unworthy of the ring but that he doesn't have the tools to overcome the true primal fears we humans often have no control over. On the flip side of this Hal had to learn to overcome the fears he already had and he's able to recognize them. This is why he keeps people at a distance

throughout because he's afraid of losing him so he eliminates that possibility. Which probably isn't the healthiest thing but it works. So despite Hal being washed up and John clearly being ready for the job John still needs to learn how to overcome fear and order to become a green lantern. Which is a lesson that only Hal can teach him as he's the only person in the universe who has learned himself. Which is why he's the only human green lantern. Hal also uses his moment to sort of put

John in his place after hearing his conversation with the Guardian. John even asks what if he was wrong and Hal just says. Simple to have Hal school John on the football field in episode 1. This shows that his experience makes up for what he lacks in youth. Which John's parents safe hepto then confesses that his real name's Hector Gutierrez. We learned that he was actually an engineering

student who was offered advanced technology by the man hunter. He then reveals the real identity of them to be William Macon War. So wait this was a Kaiser so is a situation just like Hal said. Hold on we'll talk about this more in a bit later on because I don't know if it's true. We then see Hal and John on a very quiet ride home when John breaks attention by telling Hal that he was going to return the ring. He says that he couldn't have said the oath and taken

Hal shit back when they were at the Macon ranch but he didn't. And that when he asked for it again he just wanted to show Hal what he was capable of. Surprisingly Hal is pretty cool with it. He says he would have been the same thing and that John was right about him not doing much to earn the ring. He even admits that there is a good chance that John is better than him. Well I'll be. John

then mentions how the Guardian said that Hal broke his oath but he just laughs it off and asks John if he really believes everything they tell him. He then points at how they're secretly plotting against him at this very moment. Hal then comes clean and tells John about his meaning with Sinestro and basically tells him everything he learned about the man hunters. He says the ruthless and programmed to infiltrate communities by attaching to weak spots. They find a path to power and eliminate any threat to that through manipulation. Hal asks John if that reminds him of anyone they know. Yes no I make it.

How about John clearly seems to be dodging a real question saying that it must be William like Hector said. But we see Hal knows that he's holding something back. Hal and has John call Antane to tell him they found the man hunter and to meet him at the cafe outside of Rushville. This sets their plan in motion to take down the man hunter and hopefully stop Antane from blowing up the town. Also I think this cafe is the one that we saw John meet Zoe at earlier in the season and that could be where things go down again. Just save on the budget by reusing the set. Now that after

hanging up the phone Hal just stares at John and says that he really did forgive him for what he said to the Guardians and thought he would be honest. He says that at first he thought John was just called his shit when he wasn't upset about so he dying. But after seeing his reaction in Hector's office when he thought his parents were going to be killed Hal realized that John really does have emotions. This again shows how his feellessness is a weakness and it kind of kind of being exposed and put in situations where you clearly emote and then don't in others. That shows that you're not exactly being truthful. He then reveals that John wasn't upset because he knew she wasn't dead and

that the only way she could have survived is if she was actually the man hunter. What? John was banging a man hunter? Crazy. John then comes clean but says that he wasn't sure and just had a feeling which is why he didn't tell Hal. Hal and laughs at that and congratulates him. Hal and questions if John told

the Guardians but John says he hasn't told them anything because Hal asked him not to. Which we know is true as in his meeting with Leanna he told her that they were still in Rushville cleaning up after the alien boom self up. Hal and brings up his comments about being old and tired which John apologizes for but Hal just says he's sorry for the rental. Like he didn't episode one he then rolls out the car as he sends it crashing. But yeah this goes a bit beyond a training exercise and this definitely was attempted murder. Now I have no idea what's going on with this and we obviously

know that John isn't dead due to him being in 2026. Because of this though I do wonder if the man hunter is gonna be the one that heals him and how I was basically aware that whoever this was was gonna come along especially if it was Zoe and basically heal him of his wounds. This will then reveal who the man hunter was for real his time and yeah since we know they can cure cancer I think this is possibly gonna be what happens next week. Zoe being a man hunter could also be aware that she was Williams nurse and it could also be why she built that trust with John. She did say everything would change if she told him the truth so this potentially could be a big thing next time. But is Zoe the man hunter?

Now I'm not gonna just say this because I want to uh Sinestro's daughter theory to be true but I'm not sure if I fully believe what Hal and John are selling here. Well it would make sense given what we learned this episode about her saving making when he was dying I feel like there's got to be more to the story. Kind of like John's line to Hal in the motel room. You think you're just gonna solve this case in the car? Where's the investigation? William also made her sit down in the art session

and seemed to hold power over her. Which I don't think he'd do if she was the one basically running the entire show. However if so he is really the man hunter I don't think she'll be the man hunter that's financing making. In the comics the man hunters rarely travel alone and are usually a collective group such as the man hunter cult that we mentioned earlier. Which I think making in this group are possibly members of. Essentially though she disguised herself as a nurse and learned that he had a weak point that

they could then exploit Zoe then kept him alive until a lead man hunter finally cured him and brought him into their cult. Again I would guess is the grandmaster from the comics and the one really pulling all the strings. This would also explain why Zoe said that she's with making because she likes a security provider. Making in his man hunter cult could use the technology given to them by the grandmaster to protect the man hunters in case anyone comes looking for them. Like we saw the football field. If Zoe

is a man hunter agent as well she could possibly be a sort of prisoner herself. She may even be unable to expose herself and leave the man hunters in fear of the other aliens fighting her but also not really being down with making the man hunter's larger agenda. This would explain why she's been having this live affair with John in the hopes that he can save her if she can show she's not evil like the other androids. However if this is the route we're going it would also mean that there's probably even more man hunters hanging around in rushville. Shit the whole town could be man hunters. Wait if

Zoe is a man hunter and no is her grandson. Holy shit we cracked it. No it is the man hunter. Also does that mean Billie is half android maybe just as mustache. Regardless this would also line it well with the comics. In 1987's Millennium by Steve Englehart the grandmaster has his man hunter agents take the

form of people close to members of the justice league. This is in order to kill a new group of superheroes so this could be doing anything but it's time to start expanding on man hunter watch folks. Everyone and anyone is a suspect and probably an android. Like imagine if the entire town turns out to be man hunters and John and Hal have to fight a whole army of them. Who knows if that'll happen but if there's one thing this episode really ham it into us it's that no one is really who they seem. Now I

do have that. I'm not safe with that. I'm not safe with that. I'm not safe with that. I'm not safe with the end of the video.

And if the man hunter can heal people then potentially they could be the one that brings Hal back to life. Another internet has been going wild that Hal got killed in episode one but it was a thing that shook up the internet. How that potentially if the man hunter can save someone like Zoe or Zoe can heal from these kind of things or make him come and heal whatever then they could potentially save Hal. Who did we ruin the theory time there? I don't know but yeah that's the end of the video.

Now while I've been enjoying the mystery that the show has been setting up through other last three episodes I think this episode gave some much needed answers to really get things moving forward. A lot of thematic focus of nothing being as it seems and you can see the supply to literally everyone in this episode. John and Hal are both trying to manipulate and betray each other. Makins we need to turn out to be an arsenal and not the man hunter. Hector Hammond was really not Hector Hammond. Kerry is batwoman. The list goes on and on. This forces us to question everything

that we see from here on out and again yeah the mystery box is just getting bigger and bigger and bigger. Also love how this episode explores how Hal and John are both equally worthy of being greenlands. But in different ways here though we have Hal's fearlessness being born from him having to face a death of his parents and John's being forged from strict and rigorous training. So it's just great seeing them work together for once and how they really complement each of that when not going against each other. It's just a fantastic episode though and it really sets the stage for what's to come in the second half of the season. As always I'd love to hear
