In this episode, Kentucky Wildcat and Atlanta Braves fan Larry Gritton and I talk all things UK and Braves. First, we look at Kentucky's first win over Florida in Lexington since 1986. We both mentioned how Lexington's crowd contributed to Florida's false-start penalties. We also looked at how UK won despite Florida controlling the football for most of the game. We also preview Kentucky's meeting with LSU in Lexington this weekend. Then, we switch to Baldy's Braves. Despite losing star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. to a torn ACL, the Braves won the NL East. In July, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos remade Atlanta's outfield by adding Joc Pederson, Eddie, Rosario, and Adam Duvall. Two promising Braves finally showed their talent in 2021. Third baseman Austin Riley led the Braves with a .303 average, 33 home runs, and 107 RBIs. Meanwhile, southpaw Max Fried finished an unbelievable second half by winning the NL Pitcher of the Month. In September, Fried pitched to a 1.54 ERA, which included a key shutout over the San Diego Padres. We look into the Braves NLDS matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers, which begins Friday. We then look back at the 2012 NL Wild Card game, which took place on this date. There, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta in MLB's first Wild Card game. In the bottom of eighth with two runners on and one out, Andrelton Simmons popped a 3-2 pitch from Mitchell Boggs into the outfield. Cards shortstop Pete Kozma and left-fielder Matt Holliday could not catch the ball, and Atlanta should have loaded the bases. Unfortunately for Braves fans, Sam Holbrook made one of the most controversial calls with his famous infield fly ruling. Instead of loading the bases with one out, the Braves were unable to score. Not only did the Braves lose, but this game also marked the end of Chipper Jones' MLB career. We also preview both Wild Card games. First, the Boston Red Sox host the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. Tomorrow, the LA Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals. We are interested in seeing what Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will do in his biggest start this season. We also can't wait to see two veterans in Adam Wainwright and Max Scherzer pitch tomorrow night.
