Por Pablo Callejon Cuando era un niño torpe y desgarbado mi fruta preferida eran las moras. Se parecían a un racimo de uva diminuto, con sus drupas encerradas en un envoltorio simétrico. Eran perfectas y riquísimas. Después de comerlas, las manos se impregnaban de un azul oscuro y resultaba una tarea infructuosa limpiarlas con el agua del pico de la plaza. Nunca se limpiaban del todo. Jugabas al fútbol, compartías la botella de vidrio de la Coca, te secabas el sudor con la remera y siempre quedaba algún rastro de las moras. En verano, las envolvía en un pañuelo húmedo y las dejaba varios minutos a la sombra. La fruta tibia era una amenaza para el estómago. Me prometía solo comer algunas, como al abrir la bolsa de gomitas Mogul. Pero al final de la tarde, las había devorado a todas. Mis favoritas eran las negras, aunque también había una planta de moras blancas. Las dos estaban al final de los juegos, justo enfrente del tobogán y al lado de una serie de caños donde trepábamos como simios de brazos lánguidos. Con el tiempo aprendí a certificar la maduración justa. No era una tarea fácil. La tonalidad de la fruta podría resultar engañosa. La clave era la textura. No había más remedio que descolgarlas y correr el riesgo de reventar algunas. Simplemente se deshacían. Las que habían alcanzado el punto exacto de sazón se convertían en una delicia. Las plantas no eran muy altas, ni de follaje espeso. Apenas daban alguna sombra si te escondías debajo para recolectar las frutas. Por alguna razón, armábamos los picados cerca de aquellos árboles. Significaban un punto de encuentro. Sabíamos que nos juntábamos cada día, en aquel mismo lugar, a la salida de la escuela. Rubén, Juancito, Julián, Agustín, el Negro, a veces Gastón y Pablito Zorzolo. Los partidos duraban hasta la caída del sol. Antes de volver a casa, cada uno recogía el buzo que usábamos para delimitar los arcos. La canchita era ese lugar frente a las plantas de mora.

Prior to studying medicine, she pursued classical Islamic studies in Damascus, Syria, and holds certifications (ijaza) in the Qur’an, Islamic Law, and other branches of the Islamic Sciences. Mohammad Qutub Muslim Central Dr. Mohammad Qutub is an Islamic scholar with several decades of experience as a teacher and orator. He completed his Master’s and PhD degrees in Uṣūl al-Dīn and Comparative Religion at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and has several Ijāzahs (licenses) and certificates in Qur’an, Hadith, etc. He has spoken internationally in the Middle East, the U.S., and Southeast Asia and regularly holds intensive seminars and university lectures. His passions and research revolve around: Islamic thought and history, Qur’anic Tafsīr, scientific Iʿjāz (inimitability) in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and comparative religion. He teaches students of all different ages and backgrounds in-person and online.
