Instead of focusing on growing its social media empire. Fast forward to today and it seems the same is playing out: except today it is about AI. Meta has effectively built the successor to the smartphone, and we're not talking about foldables but an entirely new consumer product already with millions in sales i.e. its smart glasses, yet Meta focuses on building the biggest possible data centers. Instead of building what will command the lead in the next consumer product, with a potential that could rival Apple’s in smartphones, billions are ince again being spent with no clear path to profits. Sometimes, the best thing is to do what one does best and knowing when to not jump in out of FOMO.
