"Last Words" (John 17:1-11, 20-26)

from RUF at UNCW · host Reformed University Fellowship at UNCW

In this week's Large Group message, guest speaker RUF Area Coordinator Jason Little teaches us about Jesus's famous last prayer from John 17. In this prayer, we are invited to see the unseen reality that holds our lives together: that we are not our own, and that we are infinitely loved. In this prayer, we learn that we belong to the Father, not because of anything WE do, but because Jesus loves us. Q. What is your only comfort in life and death?                                                                  A. That I am not my own but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by His Holy Spirit He also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for Him. (Heidelberg Catechism, Question & Answer #1) "If we do not belong to ourselves . . . we are not free to pursue whatever brings us the most personal fulfillment. We are not free to define our identity in any way we wish. We are not free to use people or creation as tools for our own ends. We are limited”-- Alan Noble
