Latinos in Hollywood
from Hella Latin@ Hosted by Odalys Jasmine
How many times have you scrolled through Netflix and saw stereotypical Latino movies and leads? Narcos, Latin lovers, funny sidekick and don't get me started on stereotypical Latina narratives. Folks like Edwin Porres Jr. are out here changing the game. Edwin was born in Guatemala and raised in West Virginia. As a Latino raised in the United States, he didn't recognize himself in the stereotypical Latino roles depicted by Hollywood. So he wrote Hóllyweird with the intention to reflect his own experiences in Hollywood. He then finished the script with his wife, Jamie, whom you’ll meet during our Cafecito & Chisme portion. Find more info about Hollyweird at hollyweirdthemovie.com and look them up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and check out their Youtube and IMDB page. Big love to my partner/sponsor, RisOn. RisOn is an interactive weekly space created by two first-gen Latinos with the intention to mindfully unburden, introspect, connect, and belong. As a Hella Latin@ listener, you get a free one-month membership. Stick around at the end of the episode for more details.
