Laura Gomez, Shedding Light on High Tech and World Stories

As a 17-year-old, she got an internship with Hewlett-Packard. She enrolled in computer science at the University of California-Berkeley, supported by an engineering firm's scholarship. Then she opted out of technology. She walked into an intro computer science class and felt overwhelmed as one of the few women in a class of hundreds. The experience echoed one at HP, where the only other woman in the department was an administrative assistant. She wanted to change the world so she switched tracks, pursuing languages and developmental economics. She earned her master's degree in sociology and Latin American studies.Laura has been featured in hundreds of publications and television programming around the world, including USA Today, Huffington Post, Glamour Magazine and Forbes México, as one of the most Powerful Women in the country. She has also been featured in, El Tiempo Colombia, CNET en español, Cosmopolitan for Latinas, Gizmodo en español, Harper’s Bazaar Spain, GQ México and the book “Found in Translation."Laura has been recognized by the Department of State and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for involvement in the TechWomen Program - only female leader at Twitter to participate in 2012. She is also on the board of the Institute for Advanced Technology and Public Policy alongside with former U.S. Secretary of State George P. Schultz and Lt Governor Gavin Newsom.
