Laurence's Story
from Blocked Britain · host Blocked Britain
Laurence, 26, from St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, wanted to train as a nurse to serve his local NHS. But Health Education England's training budget was capped by Treasury spending limits that treated public investment as a cost to minimise rather than the means by which qualified healthcare workers reach understaffed wards. The training places existed. People like Laurence wanted to fill them. What was missing was a central government willing to fund the posts that communities across the East of England desperately need. This episode examines how Westminster's workforce planning failures block willing healthcare workers from entering the profession. Blocked Britain is produced independently and receives no government funding.
