The Lord's Table is life to us because it is death to the ungodly. Passover was a double witness to blood salvation for Israel, judgment on Egypt. The same lamb that spared the covenant house sentenced Pharaoh's firstborn. Communion is not a sentimental rite. It proclaims that the God who destroyed Egypt still destroys tyrants. The modern church has spiritualized the sacrament into harmlessness. But the blood on the door was also blood in the streets. Salvation is body and soul grace to the covenant, wrath to its enemies.
