Law to Allow Public Naming of Those Convicted of Domestic Violence to be Approved - 20/10/2025

Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan will today bring “Jennie’s Law” before cabinet for approval.The law, named after murder victim Jennifer Poole, would see those with domestic violence convictions named on a publicly available register.Mother-of-two Jennifer was 24 when she was murdered in her Finglas flat by her abusive partner Gavin Murphy in 2021 after the brute hid his violent past, including a string of convictions, from her. Her brother Jason had tirelessly campaigned since her death for “Jennie’s Law” to prevent the same tragedy affecting other men, women, and children.Four years on, Minister O’Callaghan will propose that a Register of Judgements be set up and made publicly available, with abusers named once victims have given their consent. Jennifer’s brother Jason joined us on The Agenda this morning to talk to us some more about this and what this day means for himself and his family.
