Même lorsque nous pensons ne pas y prêter attention, notre système nerveux continue de traiter chaque bruit en arrière-plan, maintenant l’organisme dans un état d’alerte léger mais permanent.Les neurosciences montrent que le bruit chronique active les mécanismes du stress, avec une augmentation du cortisol et de l’adrénaline. À long terme, cette stimulation continue peut provoquer fatigue mentale, troubles du sommeil, irritabilité et difficultés de concentration. L’Organisation mondiale de la santé considère d’ailleurs la pollution sonore comme un véritable facteur de risque pour la santé.À l’inverse, le silence permet au système nerveux de basculer en mode récupération. Le rythme cardiaque ralentit, la respiration devient plus profonde et le cerveau peut enfin se réguler. Certaines recherches suggèrent même que quelques minutes de silence pourraient favoriser la régénération de zones liées à la mémoire.La bonne nouvelle, c’est qu’il n’est pas nécessaire de s’isoler dans un monastère.
