Lead House Demolitions

Home demolitions are on the rise in Northwest cities like Seattle and Portland. Hundreds of old homes coated in lead paint are torn down every year. When heavy equipment breaks apart old siding and walls, lead particles are released into the air. Yet there are few rules in place to prevent neighbors being exposed to lead dust from home demolitions. EarthFix reporter Tony Schick takes us to a neighborhood in Southeast Portland that’s fighting to get a developer to take extra precautions.
