Leadership: what young leaders are doing right ✅️

from My Mentor · host Edidiong Idang

Young people have sometimes been neglected when it comes to taking the lead in decision making. A 2021 study of 1,000 US organizations by Korn Ferry suggests that the average age of a CEO across all sectors is 59, and that of the top leadership team is 56. In Africa, the youngest president is above 35 years of age. Following these statistics, one would ask, what does contemporary youth leadership bring to the table? How can young people engage to make their voices heard? What strategies or skills are required? My guest, Natalia Tsuyama, is a Public Policy Specialist, TedX speaker, and a climate ambassador. She is 28 years old and has constantly taken leadership roles from local to the international space. A youth leader at Feminist Action for Climate Justice Coalition and represented Brazilian youth at the UN Water Conference in 2023. She shared how young people can discover their passion and pursue it as well as the place of mentorship in guding them along the way. There is so much for young and not-so-young people alike.
