Leading Through Loss
from The Gen X Disciple · host Gen X Disciple
Gen X has been through enough — recessions, divorces, the loss of parents, the long suffering of hard marriages and prodigal kids and prayers that seemed to go nowhere for years. And if we've been paying attention, we've received real comfort from God in those places. This episode is about what Paul says we're supposed to do with it: pass it through.2 Corinthians 1:3–4 makes a beautiful and demanding claim — the comfort God gives us in our troubles is given so we can comfort others with the same comfort. It's not a personal possession. It flows. The episode explores the specific comfort Gen X has earned through real suffering and asks who in our lives right now is in the place we've already been — and whether we're showing up for them with what God gave us."Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." (2 Corinthians 1:3–4, NIV) Today's challenge: think of one person in your life who is in the middle of something hard and reach out today — not with advice, just with presence and, if appropriate, the specific comfort God gave you in your own hard season.
