From listening to understand, showing empathy, and being vulnerable, to being present and following up, we'll share practical tips to help you build strong relationships with your team. Join us as we explore how intentional effort can lead to effective leadership through connection. Listen to understand, not just to respond One of the most important things you can do as a leader is to listen to the people around you. But it's not enough to just hear what they are saying, you must make an effort to truly understand their perspective. Take the time to ask questions and listen to their responses without interrupting or trying to provide a solution. When you show people that you are genuinely interested in what they have to say, they will be more likely to trust and respect you as a leader. Show empathy Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. As a leader, it's important to show empathy towards the people you lead. When someone is going through a difficult time, take the time to acknowledge their feelings and offer support. This doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything they say or do, but it does mean that you care about them as a person. Be vulnerable Vulnerability is often seen as a weakness, but it can actually be a strength when it comes to leadership. When you are open and honest about your own struggles and challenges, it creates a sense of connection with those around you. People will see that you are human and that you understand what they are going through. This can create a sense of trust and respect that is essential for effective leadership. Be present In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get distracted and lose focus on what's important. As a leader, it's important to be present in the moment and give your full attention to the people around you. When you are in a meeting or having a conversation with someone, put away your phone and other distractions. Make eye contact and actively engage in the conversation. This will show people that you value their time and that you are invested in the relationship. Follow up Following up is an important part of building a connection with the people you lead. When someone shares something with you or asks for your help, make sure to follow up and follow through on your commitments. This shows that you value their input and that you are committed to their success. It also helps to build trust and credibility with your team. In conclusion, connecting with people as a leader requires intentional effort. By listening to understand, showing empathy, being vulnerable, being present, and following up, you can build strong relationships with the people you lead. When you connect with people on a personal level, it creates a sense of trust and respect that is essential for effective leadership. Remember, leadership is not just about the position you hold, it's about the relationships you build. here is link to the book from author John Maxwell  Please go to www.abqpodcast.com where you can get show notes, resources, and links to everything we talked about today to help you navigate your journey as an entrepreneur and business owner.
