Leah's Story
from Blocked Britain · host Blocked Britain
In this episode of Blocked Britain, we meet Leah, 26, from Leeds South in Yorkshire and The Humber. Despite her determination to train as a nurse and serve her community, Leah has been blocked by deliberate choices made in Westminster. Health Education England's training budget was constrained by Treasury spending limits that treat public investment as a cost to be minimised, rather than the means by which qualified healthcare workers reach the wards that desperately need them. The training places existed. The people ready to fill them existed. What was missing was a government willing to fund the posts. Leah's story exposes how central government creates artificial scarcity in our NHS workforce while communities in one of England's most deprived areas go without the care they need. This episode contains strong language and discussion of healthcare access issues.
