Derrick is the title of a German television crime series starring Horst Tappert in the title role of Munich Chief Inspector Stephan Derrick and Fritz Wepper in the role of his partner, Inspector Harry Klein.  It was first broadcast on German-language television between October 1974 and October 1998. Herbert Reinecker was responsible for the scripts of all 281 episodes.  Derrick, the best-selling German series in television history, was broadcast in over 100 countries.  The podcast is based on Boris's memories of his experiences learning German through the crime series "Derrick and Der Kommissar". He compares the German society of the 1970s and 80s with today's, highlighting differences in behavior, morals and social norms. Boris uses the series as an example of simple, clear communication and traditional values, which he sees in contrast to today's supposedly more complex and individualistic society. He argues that understanding this older German culture can help foreigners integrate.
