Learning to Miss the Ground
from The Beautiful Dreamer Society Podcast · host Susan Bruck
In my Substack post this week,I wrote about learning to miss the ground, finding the balance between gravity and levity. It was inspired by this quote by Douglas Adams."There is an art, it says, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties."I have been practicing focus meditation over the last couple of weeks as I retake the Liberate Meditation Coach training I first did a few years ago.So I thought I would share that simple meditation with you. This week I'm just counting my breath, counting up to 10,then counting from 10 back to one.Simple, but not always easy.Douglas Adams talks about learning how to fly, but I think this is really, for me, about finding this balance between levity—humor, whimsy—and gravity. But not gravity as in overly serious or gravity as being burdened, but gravity as in being held by the earth and by our life.I find this simple practice of breathing and counting helps.I hope it helps you, too.So try this with me. And let me know what you think.Wishing you Love and Balance,Susan This is a public episode.
