Much of culture & society has provided so many different vehicles to teach us the virtues of agreeability, being accommodating, and being willing to serve -- that we're now catering to a sense of entitlement, that can sometimes become ugly. As a first note - there is nothing offensive about saying the word no, or hearing it. Time, energy, and attention are highly valued resources - every person is juggling between priorities and obligations that make demands for all three.
