Leaving and the Value of Interdependence

‘It can take something like leaving, all be it temporarily, to make us realise who and what is important'  Rob is in the middle of a significant packing up process as he prepares to leave the UK to live and work in Bangladesh. Working for the Bangladesh Football Federation as a National Coach is a great opportunity but involves leaving and in this candid and deeply personal episode Rob explores the process of leaving which involves many things leaving friends, familiarity, comfort and trading the known for the unknown. Leaving is not something that is often talked about, it's linked to departures, going away, emotion and the ultimate departure from this human plane – death but it can also help us realise what's really important the relationships in our lives that make it meaningful and our interdependence.   KEY TAKEAWAYS We cannot do this thing called life on our own it's all about developing independence when we leave our parent or carers side, taking on responsibility and making our own decisions and mistakes and then moving on to  the next level - interdependence. I've had to let go of responsibilities that I cannot continue in a different country I've had to realise that you cannot keep hold of everything and trying to keep hold off everything would be like trying to stop the movement of the universe Things won't move forward if you are kicking your feet and holding on whilst the momentum of the universe is moving on. How many of us have things in our lives that we need to let go of? We let go to make space but nature abhors a vacuum and in creating space we allow serendipity to rush in and fill it with new challenges There has to be the death of the old to allow the new to come in If everything in life was laid out there would be no challenge and no beauty in it We all have our own hero's journey and if we are prepared to step out of our comfort zone and trust then often things have a way of working out.   BEST MOMENTS ‘I am so grateful for how loving supportive and caring my family and friends have been.
