Lecture: Sue Breakell. Something of Our Own Selves: Talking Archives

from Magasin III · host Magasin III

In conjunction with the exhibition by Christian Boltanski at Magasin 3 called Les archives an evening was arranged around the theme of “heart and archive”. Sue Breakell takes as her starting point Boltanski’s use of archival forms and practices, and offers an archivist’s perspective on the nature and meaning of archives in contemporary culture. She also considers the generative possibilities of the use of archives in art practice, and the particular ways in which such traces speak to the individual experience of the viewer through a kind of “microhistory”.
