Legendary Filipino Latin Rock Band Dakila Returns To A New Generation Of Fans

from KALW News San Francisco, 91.7 · host KALW News San Francisco, 91.7

In this edition of Bay Area Beats, original band member David Bustamante tells the story of Dakila's return to the stage after 40 years. In the late 1960s and early 70s, a new sound started to emerge from the streets of San Francisco’s Mission District that would come to be known as Latin Rock. Dakila was one of the bands on that scene. They started out playing Santana covers and went on to become one of the first Filipino-American groups to land a major record deal. Their 1972 debut album would be the band’s only release, but in the years since, they’ve developed a cult following.
