By 12, he was playing professionally winning five consecutive Texas rudimental championships – then moving on to be the staff drummer with Motown Records, playing with Freddie Hubbard's and gigging with the finest jaz z cats on the planet .. like Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, Hank Jones, McCoy Tyner, Illinois Jacquet, Pharoah Sanders, Bobby Hutcherson, James Moody, Hampton Hawes, and so many others ..
