Legends Podcast #799: Misery (1990)

Legends of Halloween rolls on with another Stephen King pick from Beef. In this 1990 psychological thriller, James Caan plays a bestselling writer who, following a car crash, finds himself in the care of an obsessed fan played by Kathy Bates. Directed by Rob Reiner, from a script by William Goldman, based on King's 1987 novel, the film proved to be a breakout role for Bates, who was up to this point unknown to movie audiences. Bates took home the Academy Award for Lead Actress - still, to this day, the only Oscar win for a Stephen King adaptation. And while it's basically a two-hander between Caan and Bates, the film also includes Richard Farnsworth, Frances Sternhagen, and Lauren Bacall in supporting roles. But does the film make us its biggest fans, or should it be torched on the grill? Join us as we put on our Liberace records and try to find the happy ending in Misery! "Oh, my goodness! Heavens to Betsy!" Wanna Join The Conversation?
