Legislators need to help nursing homes in Texas become more transparent with their public dollars

Nursing-home quality in Texas is among the worst in the nation. That’s according to “A-A-R-P Texas”—which monitors reports from the federal “Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services”. This poor performance is despite nursing-homes receiving billions of dollars—over the past two years—to address “COVID-19”, staffing, and other issues. Andrea [“an-dree-ə”] Earl of “A-A-R-P Texas” says, however, that the quality can improve—if the Legislature takes action to help nursing-homes become more transparent with the public dollars that they’re receiving… “‘Senate Bill 1629’ would boost transparency in nursing-home ownership—and would ensure that funds are spent on the direct care of residents, rather than for industry-profits. Not everyone will have to choose a nursing-home for themselves, or their loved-ones. But, for those who do, they deserve the highest quality of care possible.
