Leitrim Councillor warns that news teacher incentives could see teachers leave North West

A Leitrim County Councillor and teacher has warned against providing too many incentives encouraging teachers to take up positions in the capital. Leitrim Independent Councillor James Gilmartin has warned that many local schools in the North West are also facing staffing challenges.  Department of Education officials are understood to be calling for new initiatives, including targeted bursaries for teachers to resolve recruitment challenges faced by schools, particularly around Dublin. The Manorhamilton MD Councillor says there is a fear that such moves could see young teachers moving from rural areas to the Dublin.
