Cette semaine se tient le second «Sommet pour la démocratie», organisé par l'administration Biden, un projet lancé par le président pendant sa campagne en 2020. Il s'agissait alors de réaffirmer dans une grande conférence internationale le rôle de modèle de la démocratie des États-Unis, après le triste spectacle de l'administration Trump. Le premier sommet, fin 2021, avait eu lieu entièrement en ligne à la suite de la pandémie de Covid-19. Cette nouvelle édition, qui se déroule du 28 au 30 mars, sera «hybride».Mais ces Summit for Democracy ne sont pas exempts de critiques, d'une part sur le bien-fondé, la légitimité du modèle américain mais aussi sur son efficacité. Quel peut être le rôle des États-Unis dans le monde quand la Chine réussit, semble-t-il, à jouer un rôle diplomatique de premier plan?
