Lesley's Story
from Blocked Britain · host Blocked Britain
Lesley, 42, from Gateshead Central and Whickham in the North East, dreamed of becoming a nurse to serve her community's healthcare needs. Despite her determination and the clear demand for NHS staff in the region, she found herself blocked by a system designed to fail. HM Treasury's spending constraints on Health Education England meant training places were artificially capped, treating public investment in healthcare workers as a cost to minimise rather than essential infrastructure. The North East had people ready to train and hospitals desperate for staff, but Westminster's political choice to limit funding left both unconnected. This is Lesley's story of a dream deferred by deliberate under-investment. Blocked Britain is produced independently and receives no government funding.
