Not only has Lesotho's Child Grants Programme, CGP, improved the standard of living of orphans and vulnerable children, the programme has had spill-over effects on the local economy. A government-commissioned impact evaluation has found that the unconditional cash transfer targeted at poor and vulnerable households has stimulated the demand for locally supplied goods and services. The largest positive impact is on retail, followed by crop and livestock businesses. Selinah Ntobong reports
